We spent a great deal of time learning about strategies for reading nonfiction and for reading deeply. Rather than skimming and scanning for facts, we want students to be able to read deeply about a topic of interest.

We practiced learning new information from a variety of sources. We used sites collected on Jog the Web to learn about Winter the Dolphin and things related to the topic. We learned information from articles, videos, blog posts, livecams, and more. You can spend hours and hours digging in and learning about something.

We learned that research starts with asking our own questions. We spent time asking questions about the topics we chose so that we could get started with our learning.
